My students just completed a busy year of piano study and performance. Last August, I helped each student set goals for the year, including the performance opportunities the student might want to participate in. We had a Halloween recital in October, a Christmas party recital at my home in December, a duet/trio recital in February, a Great Composer recital in April, and a Pop recital in May.
I love seeing the kids in costumes! Some of them make playing the piano a challenge!
For the Great Composers Recital, most students play two pieces, and the pieces are arranged in period order.
Our school year ended with a Pop recital, which the students really love! 31 students participated, 13 of those playing with a band. Students were given awards for this year’s achievements, and I was honored to have my former piano teacher in attendance. I owe so much of who I am as a musician and teacher to Mrs. Jan.
