I had a new experience today—my first FaceTime lesson! With the student’s mom and dad both out of town and grandparents unable to transport her to my home, we decided to try out the FaceTime option. It took only a few minutes to set up….mainly just to discover the best spot to place the iPad in the student’s piano room, and we were off. My student read her assignment to me or placed her book in front of her iPad so I could read it myself. I was able to hear and see her well. I also demonstrated concepts on my piano for her. Since I didn’t have her assignment book, I typed out her assignment goals for the week and e-mailed them at the end of the lesson. It was a bit more time-consuming than a regular lesson, but not much. It TOTALLY beats missing a lesson. I think this option will be great when a student is sick or when weather prevents them from coming to my home studio!
